Battery VoltageThis diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the system voltage as below 23.0 DCV.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are:
A charging system component is malfunctioning.
The machine harness wiring is malfunctioning.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.System Response:The results of this diagnostic code are:
Burner diagnostic lamp will be ON.
The ECM will not initiate the burner ignition cycle while this code is active.Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code CID 168 FMI F04 for the system voltage is on hold and that the diagnostic code present indicator on the conveyor ECM display is ON.Test Step 1. Check Battery Voltage
Start the engine and run the engine at high idle for several minutes.
Measure the battery voltage at the battery posts.Expected Result:The measured battery voltage is greater than 23.0 DCV.Results:
OK - The measured battery voltage is greater than 23.0 DCV. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The measured battery voltage is less than 23.0 DCV.Repair: The charging system is not charging correctly. Check and repair the charging system. Stop.Test Step 2. Check System Voltage At ECMThe engine must still be running at high idle.
Do not disconnect the machine harness from the ECM. At the ECM connector, prepare to make a voltage measurement using the 7X-1710 Cable Probe Group.
At the machine harness for the ECM, probe the rear of the connector. Measure the +battery voltage (DCV) between connector contact J1-1 ( wire P118-GY) and connector ground contact J2-2 ( wire P200-BK).Expected Result:The measured voltage is more than 23.0 DCV.Results:
OK - The measured voltage is more than 23.0 DCV. Proceed to Step 3.
NOT OK - The measured voltage is less than 23.0 DCV.Repair: A problem with the machine harness could be causing this problem. Investigate the machine harness and repair air or replace the machine harness if necessary. The CR3b relay could also cause this problem. The CR3b relay contacts must be closed in order for the ECM to recieve system power. Consult the Electrical System Schematic for this machine for further system voltage information. Stop.Test Step 3. Check If Diagnostic Code RemainsThe engine is OFF.
Remove the connectors from the ECM. Inspect and clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Enter burner service mode 3 on the conveyor ECM three digit display. Clear all inactive diagnostic codes.
Operate the machine.
Check to see if the CID 168 FMI F04 diagnostic code for the system voltage is present (red diagnostic code present indicator ON on the conveyor ECM).Expected Result:The CID 168 FMI F04 diagnostic code for the system voltage is not present. Results:
OK - The CID 168 FMI F04 diagnostic code for the system voltage is not present. The machine harness and the ECM are operating properly.Repair: The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operation. Stop.
NOT OK - The CID 168 FMI F04 diagnostic code for the system voltage is still present.Repair:
