Connections of the clutch solenoidThis diagnostic code is associated with the clutch solenoid. The FMI 05 means that the ECM has determined that an open in the circuit exists. The solenoid is energized by the relay. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The fuse has failed.
The relay has failed.
The energize circuit of the relay is open.
The return circuit of the relay is open.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 2671 FMI 05 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a digital multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK THE FUSE.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Check the 15 amp fuse for the relay. Make sure that the fuse is good. Also, make sure that the fuse has not popped out of the bus.Expected Result:The fuse is good. Results:
YES - The fuse is good. The fuse is fastened securely. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - The fuse is not good. The fuse is not fastened securely or the fuse has failed.Repair: The fuse is not fastened securely or the fuse has failed. Fasten the fuse securely or replace the fuse. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE RELAY.
The disconnect switch and the key start switch remain in the OFF position.
Disconnect the relay from the machine harness.
At the harness connector for the relay, insert a multimeter probe in contact 5 and contact 2.
Measure the resistance of the relay coil.Expected Result:The resistance of the coil is between 288 ohms and 396 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is between 288 and 396 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is not between 288 and 396 ohms. The relay has failed.Repair: Replace the relay. Proceed to Test Step 4.Test Step 3. CHECK THE HARNESS FOR AN OPEN.
The key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
The relay remains disconnected from the machine harness.
Disconnect the machine harness connector(s) from the ECM.
Connect jumper wire to contact 5 of the harness for the relay. Connect a jumper wire long enough to reach from contact 5 of the relay harness connector to the ECM.
At the machine harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance from signal contact J2-12 (wire C510-WH) to the jumper wire.Expected Result:The resistance is less than 5.0 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 5.0 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The resistance measurement is not correct. There is an open circuit in the machine harness.Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 4. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS.
Inspect the harness connectors. Clean the contacts of the harness connectors and check the wires for damage to the insulation that is caused by excessive
