ReferenceSpecial Instruction, REHS0744, "Inspection and Repair of the 797 and 797B Off-Highway Truck Frame and Rear Axle Housing"The metal in certain frame rails for the engine contacts the metal in the rear support for the engine. The contact makes the installation of the engines difficult. The problem has occurred in trucks with the oil sands arrangements.The contact also renders the rear isolation mounts for the engines ineffective. Without the isolation mounts, impacts to the machine could be transferred directly to engine assembly. Engine vibrations could be directly transferred to the frame. The vibrations could be felt by the operator.You can fabricate a template to the nominal dimension for the mounting pad for the rear support for the engine. You can temporarily fit the template to mounting pad on each rear support during the removal and installation of the engine assembly. The length of mounting pad can be modified in order to prevent contact with rail assembly.For the complete list of material and the correct procedure that is needed in order to modify the mounting pad for the above listed machines, refer to Special Instructions, REHS0744, "Procedure to Prevent Contact between the Rail Assembly for the Engine and the Rear Supports for the Engine" that is part of the above listed special instruction.
