Exhaust Manifold Bolt Tightening Procedure
This procedure does not apply to engines with water cooled exhaust manifolds.

Illustration 2. Typical 3116 Engine exhaust manifold. Bolt tightening sequence.1. Apply a thin coat of 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound to the threads of the exhaust manifold bolts.2. Tighten all the bolts in numerical sequence to a torque of 4 1 N m (35 9 lb in). See Illustrations 1 and 2.3. Tighten all the bolts again in numerical sequence to a torque of 45 5 N m (33 4 lb ft).4. Bend the lock tabs over the flats of the bolt heads. If necessary, tighten the bolt more until a flat on the bolt head lines up with a lock tab. For engines with water cooled manifolds, apply a thin coat of 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound to the threads of the exhaust manifold bolts. Then tighten all the bolts to a torque of 55 10 N m (41 7 lb ft).
