Information:

preparatory step: a) remove camshafts1. Install tool setup (A), on truck body.2. Drain coolant-38 U.S. Gal. (144 liter). Drain engine oil-15 U.S. Gal. (57 liter). Drain hydraulic tank-55 U.S. Gal. (208 liter). 3. Disconnect lines (1) and (2) from brake oil cooler. 4. Disconnect wire from temperature sensor (4) and remove cooler-to-radiator water line (3). 5. Remove inlet manifold connector pipe (5). 6. Attach hoist, tool (A) to cooler, separate lifting eye from head, and remove brake oil cooler (6), pulling it out of rear water manifold-weight 183 lbs. (83 kg). Separate rear water manifold from cylinder heads. 7. Install lifting bracket (9) on left cylinder head.8. Disconnect air compressor inlet air line (8) from rear of right inlet manifold.9. Remove fuel injection pump housing-to-head mounting bolts from brackets (7) and (10). 10. Remove cylinder head retaining nuts, attach hoist and lifting strap, and remove right cylinder head-weight 450 lbs. (204 kg). 11. Attach hoist and remove left cylinder head-weight 450 lbs. (204 kg). Before installing cylinder head, new spacer plate gasket must be installed. Refer to topic SPACER PLATE.Install Cylinder Heads
Cylinder head and spacer plate surface, must be clean and dry. Install gasket without any sealing material. Before installing cylinder head, new spacer plate gasket must be installed. Refer to topic SPACER PLATE. 1. Install head gaskets and seals. 2. Position cylinder heads on engine using tool (A). Later engines have bolts instead of the studs and nuts that hold the two cylinder heads in position. 3. Put lubrication on cylinder head studs or bolts. Install nuts or bolts and washers. Tighten nuts or bolts in numerical order as follows: 1 Tighten nuts or bolts to 175 lb. ft. (24,2 mkg).2 Tighten nuts or bolts to 250 lb. ft. (34,6 mkg).3 Tighten nuts or bolts to 250 lb. ft. (34,6 mkg).4. Connect water manifold to rear of cylinder heads.5. Install fuel injection pump housing to cylinder head mounting bolts. 6. Install brake oil cooler (6) into flange in water manifold and secure lifting eye.7. Connect air compressor inlet line to rear of right hand inlet manifold.8. Remove lifting eye from front of left hand cylinder head. 9. Install inlet manifold connector pipe (5). 10. Install cooler-to-radiator water line (3) and connect temperature sensor (4). 11. Connect oil lines (1) and (2) to brake cooler.12. Fill cooling system, engine crankcase and hydraulic system to specified levels.concluding step: a) install camshafts
