Attach Tooling (B) , a nylon lifting strap and a lift truck to the tire and wheel, as shown.

The lift truck was removed for photographic purposes.
Remove six bolts (4) from plate (5) .

Use two 1/2" - 13 NC forcing screws to remove plate (5) , shims and the O-ring seal from the tire and wheel. Remove the roller bearing from the tire and wheel. Slowly remove the tire and wheel from the machine. The tire and wheel weighs 600 kg (1323 lb) .

Remove 45 nuts (6) and the spacers that secure drum assembly (7) to the tire and wheel.

Attach a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to the drum assembly. Remove drum assembly (7) from the tire and wheel. The drum assembly weighs 173 kg (381 lb) .Installation Procedure

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement. Lubricate the O-ring seal with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Use a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to position drum assembly (7) to the tire and wheel. The drum assembly weighs 173 kg (381 lb) .

Install the spacers and 45 nuts (6) that secure drum assembly (7) to the tire and wheel.

Install the tire and wheel to the machine. The tire and wheel weighs 600 kg (1323 lb). Install the roller bearing to the tire and wheel. Install the O-ring seal and plate (5) to the tire and wheel. Install three bolts (4) in order to secure plate (5) to the tire and wheel. Remove the tooling from the tire and wheel.

Adjust the preload on the wheel bearings. Rotate the wheel and then tighten three bolts (4) to a torque of 68 7 N m (50 5 lb ft). Rotate the wheel in the same direction and remove the bolts and the plate. Measure the distance between the end of the spindle and the roller bearing. The amount of shims that is needed for the correct bearing preload is determined by subtracting 0.13 mm (.005 inch) from the distance that was measured. Install the correct amount of shims, O-ring seal and the plate (5) to the spindle. Install six bolts (4) to plate (5) . Tighten the bolts to a torque of 280 30 N m (207 22
