It is necessary to first locate the five digitJulian date code which is located below the Cat part number as seen inIllustration 1. This information will be located near one of the ends ofthe aftercooler core as shown in Illustration 2.
If and only if the Julian date code is prior to02339 will you continue the inspection process.
If the inspection must proceed then it will benecessary to view the bottom water passage from the aftercooler core endtank water inlet/outlet area. See Illustration 2.
Since only the bottom water passage is visiblethrough the end tank water inlet/outlet please refer to the bottom waterpassage for the sort criteria.
The aftercooler cores bottom water passage mayhave a diagonal fin present when looking into the end tank.
If you can see a large water fin passage witha diagonal fin in any of the bottom passages as seen in Illustration 3then the aftercooler core has a small "L" shaped water fin passage on thetop portion of the core and may fail.
If the aftercooler core looks like Illustration3 or 4 then it is required that the dealer remove it from their inventoryand return it for a replacement aftercooler core.
If the dealer can see a small water fin passageor an "L" shaped water fin on the bottom portion of the aftercooler coreas seen in Illustration 5 then the core has the preferred water fin orientaiton.
The cores similar to what is seen in Illustration5 do not have to be removed from dealer inventory and can be used.
If the aftercooler core has a Julian date codepast 02339 then it is not necessary to inspect or replace the aftercoolercore.
