Remove the front cover if the front cover has not previously been removed. Refer to this Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Front Cover - Remove and Install".
Remove the idler gear if the idler gear has not previously been removed. Refer to this Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Idler Gear - Remove and Install".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Make sure that the No. 1 cylinder is at the top center compression stroke. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Finding Top Center Position for No. 1 Piston".

Typical example
Install Tooling (A) through the camshaft gear (2) at position (B). The camshaft gear will be locked in the correct position.
Install Tooling (B) into the hole (C) in the housing. The crankshaft will be locked in the correct position.
Remove Tooling (B) from the camshaft gear (2).
Remove the setscrew (1) and the washer from the camshaft gear (2).
Remove the camshaft gear (2) from the camshaft. Note: Do not lose the key that is located in the camshaft for the camshaft gear (2).Installation Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Inspect the camshaft gear (2) and the key in the camshaft for wear or damage.

Typical example
Ensure that the marked teeth on the camshaft gear (2) are facing toward the front and that the key is installed in the camshaft. Install the camshaft gear (2) onto the camshaft. If necessary, tap the camshaft gear (2) with a soft hammer in order to seat the key in the keyway.
Install the setscrew (1) and the washer onto the camshaft gear (2). Tighten the setscrew (1) to a torque of 95 N m (70 lb ft). End By:
Install the idler gear if this is the appropriate time. Refer to this Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Idler Gear - Remove and Install".
Install the front cover if this is the appropriate time. Refer to this Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Front Cover - Remove and Install".
