ACTION REQUIRED
Before completing this procedure, please review the safety actions in the Operation and Maintenance Manual for your machine.
Choose one of the following actions:
If the connecting rod bearings have not failed
If the connecting rod bearings have failed
If the connecting rod bearings have not failed:
Change the engine oil in accordance with latest version of the machine Operation and Maintenance Manual. Note that DEO_ULS SAE 10W30 oil is no longer recommended for these particular machines.
Install a new engine oil filter.
Remove the original oil filler cap.
Affix 4718316 Film to the new 3693867 Oil Filler Cap and install onto the engine.
If required, reflash the engine ECM with the latest software, as specified on Parts Needed list.
Remove any copies of original machine Operation and Maintenance Manual from the machine or customer. Replace with the latest version of the machine Operation and Maintenance Manual in the language appropriate for the territory. Order a replacement Operation and Maintenance Manual (OMM) in the required language for each Vibratory Compactor in your territory. Order the replacement OMM via the Caterpillar Media Information System. Refer to your Media Ordering Administrator to order the new manual. All updated OMMs are Revision 06 or higher.
If the connecting rod bearings have failed:
Remove engine from the machine. For detailed instructions refer to Disassembly and Assembly, UENR01043 "CP56B, CP68B, CP74B, CS56B, CS66B, CS68B, CS74B, CS76B and CS78B Vibratory Soil Compactors Engine Supplement".
Rebuild engine with new short block assembly and new oil pump. For detailed instructions refer to Disassembly and Assembly Instructions, UENR0602 "C4.4 Engines for Caterpillar Built Machines".
Replace the engine oil in accordance with latest version of the machine Operation and Maintenance Manual. Note that DEO_ULS SAE 10W30 oil is no longer recommended for these particular machines.
Install a new engine oil filter.
Revmove the original oil filler cap.
Affix 4718316 Film to the new 3693867 Oil Filler Cap and install onto the engine.
Refit engine to the machine.
If required, reflash the engine ECM with the latest software, as specified on Parts Needed list.
