PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR REPLACING THE AIR SHUT OFF ON CERTAIN C7, AND C9 PETROLEUM ENGINES

This Program must be administered as soon as possible.When reporting the repair, use "PI10923" as the Part Number and "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty ClaimDescription Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code.
Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI10923" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number,"96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
PROBLEM
The air shut off needs to be replaced on certain C7, and C9 Petroleum Engines. The existing air shut off can fail to fully close, when actuated, allowing air to enter the engine. If the air shut off does not completely shut down engine when actuated, it may result in a risk of personal injury or death.

ACTION REQUIRED
Test the air shut off per Special Instruction, REHS7946, "Air Shutoff Test and Inspection for Certain C7 and C9 Petroleum Engines". If the air shut off fails to pass the testing/inspection criteria listed in the special instruction, replace the air shut off by following the instructions in Engine News, SEBD9849, "A New Air Shutoff Valve Is Used on Certain C7 and C9 Petroleum Engines".

The air shut off valve needs to be inspected and possibly replaced on the products listed below. The existing air shut off valve may be assembled so that it may allow air to leak through the valve and to engine intake when closed. The failure of this valve to completely shut off air flow to the engine may, in conjunction with other factors or circumstances, result in a risk of personal injury or death. You will not be charged for the service performed.
