Sudden movement or accidental starting of the machine can cause personal injury or death to persons on or near the machine.To prevent personal injury or death, perform the following:Park the machine on a smooth, level surface.Lower the work tool to the ground and engage the parking brake.Stop the engine and remove the key.Block the wheels and install the steering frame lock.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move away from working machines and personnel. Lower the work tools to the ground.
The toggle switch that raises and lowers the engine hood is located on the right side of the machine at the rear.
Open the access door in order to access the toggle switch.

Push toggle switch (1) upward in order to raise the engine hood. Raise the engine hood to the desired height, and release the toggle switch. The toggle switch will return to the neutral position.
Remove the hood or suspend the hood securely in the fully open position. Disconnect both of the lift cylinders from the hood.

Fill the hydraulic reservoir (2) with hydraulic fluid to the full line.
Activate the toggle switch until the left-hand cylinder is fully extended.
Refill the reservoir to the full line.
Activate the toggle switch until the right-hand cylinder is fully extended.
Add fluid to the reservoir to the two-thirds full level.
Fully retract both cylinders.
Do not operate the system for 5 minutes. Check the reservoir in order to verify that the foam has dissipated.
Check the fluid level in the reservoir. Add fluid to the reservoir to the two-thirds full level.
Activate the toggle switch in order to extend and retract the cylinders fully.
Check for foam in the reservoir. If foam is present in the reservoir, allow the foam to dissipate.
Add fluid to the reservoir to the two-thirds full level.
Extend the cylinders and retract the cylinders for two additional cycles. Continue additional cycles until foam does not appear.
Reattach the hood and both cylinders to the hood.
Open and close the hood until foam does not appear in the reservoir. Check the oil level in the reservoir. Verify that the oil level in the reservoir has not changed. Foam should be allowed to dissipate and the reservoir should be refilled after each cycle. When the cycling is completed, fill the reservoir to the full line.
