Do not use threaded rods that have not been hardened as tooling with hydraulic cylinders. The maximum rated tonnage should be stamped on one end of the puller studs. Do not use threaded rods that have not been stamped with the rated tonnage.

Attach a suitable lifting device to boom (5), as shown. The weight range of the boom and the stick cylinder is approximately 1500 kg (3300 lb) to 3100 kg (6850 lb). Note: Apply a thin coat of Tooling (C) to the bores in the upper frame and in the bore for the boom foot pin. Apply a thin coat of Tooling (C) to the lip of lip type seals.
Position boom (5) into the correct position. Make sure that the pin bores in the upper frame align with the pin bore in the boom.

Install Tooling (B) in boom foot pin assembly (8). Use Tooling (B) to temporarily install boom foot pin assembly (8) in the upper frame and in the boom. Remove Tooling (B).

Measure the total clearance between the boom and the upper frame at the bore for the boom foot pin. The total clearance of Dimension (a) plus Dimension (b) must not be more than 1.0 mm (0.04 inch). If the total clearance is less than 1.0 mm (0.04 inch), the addition of shims between the boom and the upper frame will not be required. If the total clearance is more than 1.0 mm (0.04 inch), add the correct thickness of shims in order to obtain the required clearance.
Use the following table to determine the correct shims (9).

If shims (9) need to be installed between the boom and the upper frame attach Tooling (A) to boom foot pin assembly (8), as shown. Use Tooling (A) to remove boom foot pin assembly (8).
Install the correct amount of shims (9).

Apply Tooling (C) to the boom foot pin.
Install Tooling (B) in boom foot pin (8). Use Tooling (B) to install boom foot pin assembly (8) in the upper frame and in the boom. Remove Tooling (B).

Install the washer and bolt (7). Tighten the bolt to a torque of 460 60 N m (340 44 lb ft).
Remove the suitable lifting device from the boom at this time.

Connect hose assemblies (6).

Connect the rod end of the boom cylinders. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Boom Cylinder - Remove and Install".
Install the stick. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Stick - Install".
