Remove the timing gear cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Front Housing - Remove" .
Remove the flywheel housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel Housing - Remove and Install" .
Remove the pistons and the connecting rods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Pistons and Connecting Rods - Remove" .
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Turn the crankshaft until the timing mark "C" on crankshaft gear (1) is aligned with the timing mark "C" on camshaft gear (2) .
Make a mark on the teeth of the fuel pump drive gear and the idler gear that is in the engaged position. This is shown in Illustration 1 at location (X) . Make a mark on the engaged teeth of the idler gear and the camshaft gear at location (Y) . This will assist in the correct timing of the camshaft for the fuel injection pump during the installation of the crankshaft.

Fasten a hoist to the crankshaft.
Remove the main bearing caps.
Remove the crankshaft. The weight of the crankshaft is 95 Kg (210 lb) .
Remove the main bearings from the main bearing caps. Remove the main bearings from the cylinder block.

Use Tool (A) in order to remove the crankshaft gear and the oil seal wear sleeve.
