Weld location (A), vertically up, using a 9 mm (0.4 inch) groove weld as shown in Illustration 10.
Weld location (B) horizontally, using a 14 mm (0.6 inch) groove weld.Note: The stop and start of welds (A) and (B) should be in the center of the flat plate. Do not start or stop on the corners of this plate. Remove the slag and clean the weld between each pass.

If flat plate was not removed, carbon arc gouge a 10 mm (0.4 inch) groove on each of the four sides.
Place a 10 mm (0.4 inch) groove weld on all four sides of the flat plate.
Locate and tack weld the side plate using the marks made before removing the side plate, or refer to dimension (C) as shown in Illustration 11

Locate and tack weld stop block, using the marks made before removing the block or refer to dimension (D) as shown in Illustration 12

Weld the top and bottom of the side plate using a 10 mm (0.4 inch) groove weld.

(E) Weld both top and bottom at these locations.
Weld around the side plate and stop block on both centershift plates using a 6.0 mm (0.23 inch) fillet weld.

Allow the welds to cool to ambient outside temperature.
Repeat the process on the other side of the frame if necessary.
Remove the spreader bars.
Clean and inspect the weld using an ultrasonic inspection method. The weld must be free of cracks, porosity, undercut, and incomplete fusion. The weld quality must conform to the AWS D14.3 or Caterpillar 1E99 weld specifications.
Make sure that the swing arm bores are still properly aligned. If not, the swing arm bores must be reworked to correct specifications. Also make sure that distance between centershift plates is 266.7 mm (10.50 inch) as shown in Illustration 15.

Air arc to bottom of crack. Weld and grind flat on top and bottom of frame.
Attach top plate as shown in Illustrations 16 and 17.
Tail weld 2 inches past the end of the plate on all four corners.
Attach bottom plate as shown in Illustrations 16 and 17.
Tail weld 2 inches past the end of the plate on all four corners.
Repaint any repaired ares to prevent rust and corrosion.
Attach all cylinders, wires, hoses, lines, and other attachments previously removed from the centershift bracket assembly.
