Remove Exhaust Manifold (rear)
FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENTCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.Start By:a. remove turbocharger 1. Remove two bolts and washers (1) that secure rear exhaust manifold (3) to exhaust elbow (2). 2. Remove one bolt and washer (4) that secure rear exhaust manifold (3) to exhaust elbow (5). One of the bolts and washers in the Step above was removed during the removal of the turbocharger.3. Remove the gaskets from between the rear exhaust manifold and exhaust elbows (2) and (5). 4. Attach a lifting sling and a suitable lifting device to rear exhaust manifold (3) as shown.5. Remove six bolts, washers and nuts (6) (three at each end of the rear exhaust manifold), securing rear exhaust manifold (3) to both water cooled exhaust manifolds.6. Remove four bolts, nuts and washers (8) [two at each by-pass elbow (9)]. 7. Remove four nuts (10) holding rear exhaust manifold (3) to mounting bracket (11).8. Remove rear exhaust manifold (3) and the gaskets. The weight of the rear exhaust manifold is approximately 32 kg (71 lb).Install Exhaust Manifold (rear)
Check all the gaskets for damage or wear prior to assembly. If any gasket is damaged or worn, replace with a new gasket. 1. Attach a lifting sling and a suitable lifting device to rear exhaust manifold (3) as shown. Put rear exhaust manifold (3) and the gaskets in position. The weight of the rear exhaust manifold is approximately 32 kg (71 lb).2. Apply 4C-5598 Anti-Seize Compoundto four nuts (10) prior to installation. Install four nuts (10) holding rear exhaust manifold (3) to mounting bracket (11). 3. Apply 4C-5598 Anti-Seize Compoundto four bolts, nuts and washers (8). Install four bolts, nuts and washers (8) [two at each by-pass elbow (9)]. 4. Apply 4C-5598 Anti-Seize Compoundto six bolts, washers and nuts (6). Install six bolts, washers and nuts (6) (three at each end of the rear exhaust manifold), securing rear exhaust manifold (3) to both water cooled exhaust manifolds. 5. Install one bolt and washer (4) that secures rear exhaust manifold (3) to exhaust elbow (5). One of the bolts and washers in the Step above will be installed during the installation of the turbocharger. 6. Install two bolts and washers (1) that secures rear exhaust manifold (3) to exhaust elbow (2).End By:a. install turbocharger
