Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
There have been isolated instances of reported oil leaks from the valve mechanism cover during operation. The oil leak can be observed by an accumulation of fine debris around the valve mechanism cover, the injector sleeves, and the cylinder head.Solution
Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.
If a suspected oil leak is observed, perform the following procedure:
Clean the affected area. Ensure that all oil and dirt residue has been removed.
Apply a suitable leak-detection powder to the affected areas. Operate the engine under normal operating conditions. Observe the engine and look for evidence of leaks and the origin of the leak path.
When the leak path has been determined, photograph the affected area.
Replace any components that show evidence of leaks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly for the correct procedure.Torque Value Measurement of Bolts for Valve Mechanism Cover Base
Note: If there are no visible signs of leaks from the valve mechanism cover base, follow this procedure while checking the engine valve lash.
Illustration 1 g06287680
Make temporary marks on all bolts (1) and on valve mechanism cover base (2) in Position (X).Note: Ensure that the area around the bolts and the valve mechanism cover base is clean.
Use a suitable dial indicator torque wrench that can accurately measure a torque value of approximately 25 N m (221 lb in).
Install the suitable torque wrench and the socket onto bolt (1). Use the suitable torque wrench to record the release torque value of the bolt through 30 to 90 degrees. Note the value of the release torque.
Use the suitable torque wrench to retighten bolt (1) until the marks in Position (X) on the bolt and valve mechanism cover base (2) are aligned. Note the value of the retighten torque.
For the correct torque sequence of bolts (1). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, Valve Mechanism Cover Base - Remove and Install for the correct sequence.
Repeat Step 2 through Step 5 to check remaining release and retightening of bolts (1).Submit the following information through "CPI Feedback" within the Service Information Management Systems (SIMSi).
