Introduction
The following procedure describes the process that must be followed when the engine, ECM or CEM is replaced.Engine Replacement or Engine Control Module (ECM) Replacement without DPF Replacement
If the engine or ECM are replaced, then determine the most recent cleaning of the DPF.
If the diesel particulate filter was cleaned within the last 500 hours of operation, an ash cleaning procedure is not required. Reset the engine ash model, Refer to Troubleshooting, "Cat ET Service Features, DPF Ash Service" for additional information.
If the diesel particulate filter was not cleaned within the last 500 hours of operation, clean the DPF. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS5045, "Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Maintenance on Tier 4 Products Equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)" for additional information. Refer to Systems Operation and Testing and Adjusting, "Diesel Particulate Filter - Clean" for the correct procedure.DPF Replacement without an Engine Replacement
If the DPF has failed, replace the DPF and reset the engine ash model. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS5045, "Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Maintenance on Tier 4 Products Equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)" for additional information.CEM Replacement without an Engine Replacement
If the CEM was replaced, reset the engine ash model. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Cat ET Service Features, DPF Ash Service" for additional information.

Update the CEM serial number with Cat ET.
Click on "Configuration".
Next click on "Aftertreatment Configuration".
Select "Factory Installed Aftertreatment #1 Indentification Number".
Click the "Change" tab at the bottom of the screen.

Type in the new CEM serial number and click "OK".
Perform an "ARD Ignition Test" in Cat ET to verify the correct operation of the new CEM.
Report both the old CEM serial number and the new CEM serial number in the SIMSi service report.
