Elbow (2). 7M-1674 Filter Element (4).A 7M-1674 Filter Element (4) is located in elbows (2) between air cleaners (3) and turbochargers (1). See Illustrations 1 and 2. The purpose of these filters is to prevent unfiltered air from being drawn into the air system should any break occur in the line between the elbow and indicator. If a break should occur, the 7M-1674 Filter Element could become plugged. If the 7M-1674 Filter Element is plugged, the filter restriction indicator could not detect air cleaner restriction.
To test an installed 7M-1674 Filter Element do the following:
1. Set an 8N-2694 Air Filter Restriction Indicator to indicate a restricted air cleaner.2. Screw the indicator onto a short 1/8 inch NPT pipe nipple.3. Screw the other end of the nipple into the threaded hole in the elbow where the 7M-1674 Filter Element is located.4. Depress the reset button on the air filter restriction indicator.5. If the indicator resets, the filter element is not plugged. If the indicator does not reset, the filter element is plugged and must be replaced.To replace the 7M-1674 Filter Element, to the following:
1. Remove the air cleaner from the air cleaner housing. This will provide access to a hole inside of the elbow were the 7M-1674 Filter Element is installed.2. A piece of 1/8 inch drill rod, 2 inches long is required to push the filter element from the inside of the elbow to the outside. See Illustration 2.3. After the plugged filter element has been removed, install a new 7M-1674 Filter Element in the hole on the outside of the elbow. Use a piece of 1/4 drill rod to lightly seat the filter element in the bottom of the bore.
