DO NOT loosen the filler or pressure cap on a hot engine. Steam or hot coolant can cause severe burns.
Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, Caterpillar Tools and Shop Product Guide, for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Elphinstone machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. Procedure:
1. Drain approximately 10 liters (2.6 US gal) from the radiator to allow the top vent lines to be removed. If the engine coolant is to be reused, ensure no foreign material enters the container.
