Using Cross-Slope Plus Lift Guidance In The Field
Preparing The Sensors
Note: Although you can only use one Sonic Tracer at a time to generate guidance information, you can have two Sonic Tracers connected to the system. You must bench each sensor when the sensor is first used to provide guidance. To bench a Sonic Tracer, complete the following steps:
The setup must be configured for lift and cross slope. If the AccuGrade System is not configured for lift and cross slope, refer to Step 1through Step 1.f.
From any Guidance Screen, press the Menu Key (11) .
Use the Arrow Keys in order to scroll to "Vertical Setup".
Press the "OK" Key (10) .
Press the "Change Method" Soft Key.
Use the Arrow Keys in order to scroll to "Lift + Cross Slope".
Press the "OK" Key (10) .The AccuGrade System will now be configured for lift and cross slope. Use the Escape Key (4) in order to return to the Guidance Screen.
Position the sonic tracer over the target curb or stringline by adjusting the L-shaped support tube. Adjust the support tube so that:
The sonic tracer is between 400 mm (16 inch) and 1 m (3.3 ft) horizontally from the blade tip
The tube is perpendicular to the wheelbase of the machine
The sonic tracer is centered directly over the elevation reference surface
Set the design cross slope.
If the system is in Automatic Mode, blade movement may occur.Ensure that the system is in Manual Mode.Personal injury or death from crushing could occur if the system is not in Manual Mode.
Position the levelled blade beside the elevation reference surface.Note: Use the automatic controls to level the blade. Keep the cross slope in Auto until the elevation side is placed to grade. Once you are at grade, switch the cross slope back to manual.Note: Always put the system in Manual when you leave the cab or when you make manual adjustments to the Sonic Tracer.
Adjust the Sonic Tracer support tube so that:
The tube is perpendicular to the wheelbase of the machine
The Sonic Tracer is centered directly over the elevation reference surface
Adjust the Sonic Tracer on the support tube so that it is approximately 650 mm (25 inch) above the elevation reference surface.
From any guidance screen, press the Menu Key (11) .The "Vertical Guidance Setup" dialog appears.
Use the Arrow Keys in order to highlight "Bench".
Press the "OK" Key (10) .The "Bench Sonic Tracer" dialog appears:

Edit the Reference elevation field as required. For a Sonic Tracer, this is typically zero.
Press the "OK" Key (10) to begin benching. When benching finishes, the "Vertical Guidance Setup" dialog appears.Cross Slope Plus Lift Setup
Use the procedure in "Cross Slope Only Set Up".Working With Cross Slope Plus Lift Guidance
The AccuGrade System assumes that the mainfall of the machine is measured in the direction of travel of the machine. Some machine configurations, such as an articulated grader, will result in the mainfall sensor and the direction of travel of the machine being misaligned. This will result in guidance errors.
