Information:

Start By: a. remove front tires and rims 1. Place a suitable container underneath the spindle in order to capture the oil during removal of wheel spindle (3). Store the oil for reuse, or dispose of the oil properly.2. Remove bolts (4) and cover (2) from the wheel spindle housing.3. Remove the O-ring seal from cover (2).4. Remove three bolts (5), retainer (7) and the shims, if so equipped. 5. Loosen bolt (6). 6. Install Tooling (A) under the head of bolt (6).7. Tighten bolt (6) in order to secure Tooling (A) in position.8. Fasten an appropriate lifting strap and a hoist to wheel spindle (3). Tighten Tooling (A) against the shaft of the wheel spindle in order to force the spindle outward. Hit the flange of the wheel spindle with a hammer in order to assist Tooling (A) in forcing the spindle out of the spindle housing.9. Repeat step 8 until wheel spindle (3) is loose from bearing cone (8). 10. Remove wheel spindle (3) from the wheel spindle housing. Remove bearing cone (8) from the bearing cup. Be careful that bearing cone (8) does not fall and get damaged during removal of wheel spindle (3). The weight of wheel spindle (3) is 42 Kg (93 lb).11. Remove Duo-Cone seal (9) from wheel spindle (3) and Duo-Cone seal (10) from the wheel spindle housing.12. Remove Tooling (A) and bearing cone (8) from the wheel spindle housing. Tighten bolt (6) to a torque of 700 27 N m (515 20 lb ft) 13. Remove two bearing cups (12) from the wheel spindle housing. 14. Use Tooling (B) in order to remove bearing cone (11) from wheel spindle (3).15. Repeat Steps 1 through 14 in order to remove the remaining wheel spindle. The following steps are for the installation of the wheel spindles.16. Make sure that all components of the wheel spindles are clean prior to installation. During the installation, check the condition of the O-ring seals used in the Duo-Cone seals and the covers that were removed. Before installing the Duo-Cone seals, read the topic, "Duo-Cone seals," in this edition. 17. Heat bearing cone (11) to a temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install bearing cone (11) on wheel spindle (3). 18. Make sure the Duo-Cone seal is clean and dry. Make sure all the metal surfaces that seal makes contact with are clean and dry. Use Tooling (C) in order to install Duo-Cone seal (9) in wheel spindle (3). 19. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (12). Install bearing cups (12) in the wheel spindle housing. 20. Make sure the Duo-Cone seal is clean and dry. Make sure all the metal surfaces that the seal makes contact with are clean and dry. Use Tooling (C) in order to install Duo-Cone seal (10) in the wheel spindle housing.21. Fasten an appropriate lifting strap and a hoist in wheel spindle (3). Carefully install wheel spindle (3) to the wheel spindle housing.22. Install bearing cone (8) in wheel spindle (3).
