This is a view of the depth micrometer that is used to measure the thrust pin.This is the new adjustment procedure for the differential thrust pin.
Install the differential into the rear axle housing.
Remove the O-ring from the differential thrust pin. Install the thrust pin (1) into the rear axle housing. The thrust pin (1) fits tightly against the bearing cap (5). Refer to Illustration 1.
Measure the distance of the thrust pin (1) that is sticking out of the rear axle housing with a depth micrometer. Refer to Illustration 2.
Subtract .05 .02 mm (.0020 .0008 inch) from the distance that was measured in Step 3. This is the shim pack thickness. Assemble the shim pack with the shims that equal the calculation.
Remove the thrust pin (1) and install the O-ring onto the thrust pin (1). Install the thrust pin (1), shim pack (4), thrust pin cover (2) and the cover bolts (3). Torque the cover bolts (3) to standard torque. Refer to Illustration 1.
