The machine must be stopped and the engine at low idle before changing direction. After moving the transmission control, do not accelerate until after hearing or feeling the transmission clutches engage.
The transmission on this machine is equipped with nine forward and two reverse gears. The transmission will automatically select gears based upon the forward starting gear configuration, reverse starting gear configuration, gear HOLD function, transmission control lever position, ground speed, and other operating parameters.Forward Starting Gear Configurations
The transmission will use either first or second forward gear to start the machine in motion. The transmission may be programmed to use first forward gear or second forward gear through the CMPD.If the second forward starting gear parameter is enabled, the transmission will use second forward gear if the transmission control is in the D or 3 position. The transmission will automatically disable the second forward starting gear feature if grade, payload, transmission temperature, or other operating conditions indicate that first forward starting gear is appropriate. If the transmission control is in the 2 or 1 position, the transmission will use first forward starting gear. If the second forward starting gear parameter is disabled, the transmission will use first forward gear for starting the machine motion if the transmission control is in the D, 3, 2, or 1 position.Enable the second forward starting gear parameter for normal operating environments. Disable the second forward starting gear parameter for operating environments with high rolling resistance.Reverse Starting Gear Configuration
The transmission will use either first or second reverse gear to start the machine motion. The transmission may be programmed to use first reverse gear or second reverse gear through the CMPD.If the second reverse starting gear parameter is enabled, the transmission will use second reverse gear to start machine motion. The transmission will automatically disable the second reverse starting gear if the grade or payload is above a threshold value or if the transmission temperature is below a threshold value.The use of second reverse as the starting gear can be temporarily overridden if the HOLD switch is depressed while moving the transmission control into the reverse position.If the second reverse starting gear parameter is disabled, the transmission will use first reverse gear for starting the machine motion.Enable the second reverse starting gear parameter based on operator preference and the machine operating requirements. Enable the second reverse starting gear parameter for normal operating environments where higher reverse ground speeds are required. Disable the second reverse starting gear parameter for operating environments with high rolling resistance or when higher reverse ground speeds are not necessary.HOLD Mode Usage in Forward Gears
