Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from hot oil or hot components.At operating temperature, oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns.Remove the fill cap only when the engine is stopped, and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This will help prevent fluid loss and this will help to prevent contaminants from entering the system.

Note: The transmission hydraulic control valve is located in the transmission case.
Open platform door (1) behind the cab in order to access the transmission.

Remove four bolts (2) and bolts (3) .
Remove cover assembly (4) and the gasket.

Remove bolt (5) and retainer (5) that secures sleeves (6) to transmission hydraulic control valve (7) .

Disconnect sleeves (6) from transmission hydraulic control valve (7) by sliding the sleeves backward. Slide sleeves (6) enough in order to allow clearance for removal of the transmission hydraulic control valve.

Disconnect transmission control harness (8) from the right front corner of the transmission case.

Remove nut (9) from transmission control connector (10) .
Remove two bolts (11), retainer (12) and the gasket.

Remove four bolts (13) and the washers.

Attach Tool (A) and a hoist, as shown.
Move control valve (7) to the left in order to gain enough clearance for removal of transmission control connector (10) .
Carefully remove transmission hydraulic control valve (7) from the transmission. The weight of the transmission hydraulic control valve is 52 kg (115 lb).
