This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI3905" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3905" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

There is a possibility that a section of the 7V8449 Axle Shaft in the front and rear axles can break off inside the differential and damage internal axle components on certain 988F Wheel Loaders, 834 and 836 Compactors. The axle shaft for the serial number ranges specified need to be removed and inspected.

Rework Procedure
Drain the oil from axles and starting with any final drive:
1. Remove 9V5953 Final Drive Cover, remove 7V8449 Axle Shaft with 1T0479 Retaining Ring, 4E3637 Sun Gear and 9C4203 Ring still attached.2. Inspect the differential end of the 7V8449 Axle Shaft for cracks using an "eye loupe" or penetrating die, in particular look for cracks originating near the part number stamp.3. Remove the 1T0479 Retaining Ring, 4E3637 Sun Gear, 9C4203 Ring and check the sun gear end of the 7V8449 Axle Shaft for cracks. Replace any problem 7V8449 Axle Shafts.4. Reassemble the 9C4203 Ring, 4E3637 Sun Gear and 1T0479 Retaining Ring on the 7V8449 Shaft and reinstall in the final drive.5. Replace the 7S8561 Seal in the 3V5953 Final Drive Cover, reassemble the final drive cover to the final drive tightening the (six) 7B3235 Bolts and 5P8245 Washers to a torque of 100 15 N m (72 10 ft lbs).6. Follow the same procedure for the other three final drives. Refill axles with recommended Caterpillar TO4 weight oil. If problem shafts are found, the time to replace shaft is same as time to reinstall original after inspection.
