Be sure the engine has been shutoff for a minimum of five minutes to be sure that accumulator oil pressure is zero.Accumulator is filled with dry nitrogen. Do not loosen or remove valve or cap from the top of accumulator. A bleed screw at the bottom of the accumulator can be used to release any pressure that is left in the system before any work is done on the axle suspension system. Failure to follow these procedures can result in personal injury.
1. Disconnect hose assembly (2) from the axle suspension pump. Remove elbow (1). 2. Remove two bolts (4) that fasten tube assembly (5) to the cylinder block. Pull tube assembly down from the oil filler base.3. Remove tube assembly (3) from between the cylinder block and the oil gauge tube assembly. 4. Disconnect hose assemblies (6) and (7) from the axle suspension group. 5. Remove two bolts (8) that fasten pump adapter to the timing gear plate and cover. Remove axle suspension pump (9).Install Axle Suspension Pump
1. Install axle suspension pump (1) and adapter in position on the timing gear lever and plate. 2. Connect hose assemblies (2) and (3) from the reservoir to the axle suspension pump. 3. Put opposite end of tube assembly (5) in oil filter base and install gasket and two bolts to fasten tube assembly to the cylinder block. Install tube assembly (4) between cylinder block and the oil gauge tube assembly. 4. Install elbow (6) and connect hose assembly (7) from the selector valve to the axle suspension pump. Disassemble Axle Suspension Pump
START BY:a) remove axle suspension 1. Remove four screws (1), valve group (2), O-ring seal and gasket from the axle suspension pump. 2. Remove nut (5), setscrew (4) and cap (3) from valve. Make a note of the number of turns it takes to remove setscrew from cap. 3. Remove cap (6), spring (7), cap (8), spool (9) and plug (10) from the valve body. Remove O-ring seals from caps (3) and (6) and plug (10). 4. Loosen nut (11) on shaft and install tooling (A) on pump. Loosen gear (12) on tapered shaft and remove tooling, nut and gear from shaft. 5. Remove two bolts (14), adapter (13) and O-ring seal. 6. Remove bolts (16) and plate assembly (15) from housing assembly. 7. Remove piston (17) and gasket (18) from plate assembly. 8. If damaged remove bearing (19) from plate (20). 9. Remove piston block assembly (21) from the housing assembly. 10. Use a 5/16" bolt 3" long and two flat washers (not shown) to push spring (24) together so retaining ring (22), washers (23) and spring can be removed. 11. Remove retaining ring and three pins (25) from the piston block. 12. Remove spider pivot (26) from shaft. 13. Remove spider and piston assembly (27) from shaft. 14. Turn housing assembly over and remove retaining ring (28) with tool (B). 15. Remove shaft assembly (29) from housing with a press.16. Remove seal (30), washer (31), retaining ring
