Measure distance (A) between straight edge (4) and extender plate (6) at the rear of the extender plate. The rear edge of the extender plate (6) should be 3 mm (0.12 inch) above the main screed plate (5).
Measure distance (B) between straight edge (4) and the tamper bar of the extender plate. The distance should be 4.2 mm (0.17 inch).
Measure distance (C) between straight edge (4) and main screed plate (5) at the rear of the main screed plate. The rear edge of the main screed plate (5) should be 3 mm (0.12 inch) below the rear of the extender plate (6).
Measure distance (D) between straight edge (4) and the tamper bar of the main screed plate. The distance should be 2 mm (0.08 inch).

Place straight edge (4) on right main screed plate (5), along the inboard edge of the plate. Ensure that the straight edge extends beyond the rear of extender plate (6). Perform Step 7 through Step 10 with the straight edge in this position.
If the measurements recorded in Step 7 through Step 10 in both positions along the extender are within specification, the extender angle of attack is correct. If the measurements recorded in Step 7 through Step 10 are outside the specification, go to Step 13.

Loosen the three bolts (7) on both adjusters for the extender.
Loosen the upper nut (8).
Adjust rod (9) until the front edge of the extender plate is 1.2 mm (0.047 inch) above the rear edge of the extender plate.
Tighten nut (8) and bolts (7).

Use extender adjusters (10) in order to set the right extender to the correct height for distance (A). If distance (B) remains outside specification, adjust the angle of attack of the rear extender adjuster independently.

Reset the height indicator scales (11) to zero. Note: If the extender cannot be set to the correct height, replace the screed plates, and go to Step 6. If the extender cannot be adjusted to the correct height after the screed plate has been replaced, the screed is damaged.Tamper Bar Height
Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.
Lift the screed and fully extend the screed extenders.

Install the screed lock mechanisms (1).
Stop the engine.

For the screed section being tested, rotate tamper shaft (2) until tamper bar (3) is at the lowest position. Note: The tamper shaft (2) and tamper bar (3) for the right extender are shown in the above photos. The location of these components on the other screed sections is similar.
Use a straight edge to measure the height difference between tamper bar (3) and screed plate (4) on the outboard edge of the screed section being tested. Repeat this measurement on the inboard edge of the screed section. The tamper bar should be 0.5 mm (0.02 inch) lower than the screed plate along the full width of the plate.
