Motor Reassembly
The installation of new parts contained in the seal kit is recommended at each overhaul of the motor.
Place body (15) shaft seal bore up, on flat plate in a suitable arbor press. Install a new shaft seal (9) using a tool similar to the one shown in figure 1. Press seal below front face of body to dimension shown in figure 2. Pack the area between the double lip of the seal with Lubriplate or equivalent. Install retainer (8) sharp edge out.
Shaft seal must be started square with face of bore. Use care to ensure shaft seal does not cock during installation.
Figure 1. Seal Installation Tool
Figure 2. Seal Installation DimensionInvert body so that gear bores are up and on "MC" Series install ball bearings (16). Install wear plate (5) in bottom of bore, making sure that pressure loading seal (6) is positioned properly in seal grooves and installed against bottom of bore surface.Lubricate bearings in body and face of wear plate with SAE 10 oil.Apply Lubriplate or equivalent to outer surface of drive shaft installation sleeve. Insert sleeve into inside diameter of shaft seal from front of motor (see figure 3), until sleeve contacts drive gear bearing. Install drive gear (14); then remove the drive shaft installation sleeve. Install driven gear (13), with long journal toward front of motor.Lubricate rear gear faces and journals with SAE 10 oil and install thrust plate *(4) in its original position.
Bronze thrust surface must contact gear face.
Apply a small amount of grease to rear cover groove and install new square cut ring (3) into groove. Install dowels (7) in body (15).*Or 2nd wear plate dependent on design M30 series.
Figure 3. Drive Shaft Installation SleeveLubricate rear cover bearings with SAE 10 oil and install rear cover (12), matching scribe marks on cover and body.
Body must be maintained in vertical position, gear bores up, during rear cover installation to prevent shifting of thrust plate *(4). Any shift of the thrust plate will result in pinching between the body and cover when cover cap screws are installed.
Position motor in arbor press, shaft end down, and press on the rear cover (12). If arbor press is not available, insert all cap screws and washers and pull cover down evenly in small increments.Insert cap screws (1) and washers (2); torque to 46-51 N-m (34-38 ft.-lb.).On models equipped with keyed drive shaft, install snap ring (11) on drive shaft and install woodruff key (10).On "MC" Series, if plug (17) was removed, reinstall and torque 41-54 N-m (30-40 ft.-lb.).Check that drive shaft turns with adjustable wrench without evidence of mechanical bind.*Or 2nd wear plate dependent on design M30 series.Break-In Procedure
Required with a new body replacement, the motor can be broken in as a pump with a test stand. The test stand should contain SAE 10 oil maintained at a temperature of 46°-52° C (115°-125° F). Return oil should be filtered to 10 micron nominal. Install a 100-mesh screen at motor inlet. A 0-3450 kPa (0-500 psi) pressure gauge
