Belt Tension is Critical to the Service Life of Alternator Belts
To obtain the maximum service life of the alternator belt and of the pulleys, the correct belt tension is critical. If the tension is inadequate, the belt may roll on the pulley or the belt may slip. The slipping will reduce the service life of the belt. The new 240-8220 Belt Tension Gauge Gp is now available. The gauge is for use with belts that have eight ribs. The gauge will work with belts that have a top width in the range of 9.65 to 31.75 mm (0.380 to 1.250 inch). The gauge has a working range of 135 to 270 N m (100 to 200 lb ft).
