4. Remove shaft (11) from the oil pump drive gear.5. Remove bolts (8) and tube assembly (14) from the housing.6. Remove transmission oil pump drive gear (10) from the torque converter updrive housing. 7. Remove retaining ring (12) that holds bearing (13) on gear (10). 8. Use tooling (C) and a press to push gear (10) out of bearing (13). 9. Remove bearing retainer (9) from gear (10). 10. Fasten tooling (B) and a suitable hoist to the carrier assembly as shown. Remove the eighteen bolts that fasten the impeller to the housing. Use two M10 × 1.50 Metric forcing screws (15) to loosen the impeller and carrier assembly from the housing. The weight of the unit is 36 kg (80 lb). 11. Remove retaining ring (16) from the carrier assembly. Remove the bearing and shaft (17). 12. Remove retaining ring (18) from the end of the of the carrier assembly and remove stator (19).
To prevent possible damage, do not remove splined adaptor (21) from the stator unless necessary. For part reusability refer to Guideline for Reusable Parts Form No. SEBF8087.
13. Remove retaining rings (20) from each side of stator (19).14. Heat stator (19) to a temperature of 121°C (250°F) for one hour. Then remove splined adapter (21) from stator (19). 15. Use tooling (D) to remove retaining ring (22). Remove spacer (23). 16. Support the carrier assembly and drive carrier assembly (24) out with a soft hammer from impeller (25). Remove the seal ring from carrier assembly (24). 17. Turn impeller (25) over. Remove bolts (26) and gear (27). 18. Position the impeller on blocks as shown. Use tooling (C) to remove bearing (28). 19. Use a press to push output shaft (17) out of bearing (29). 20. Remove piston ring (30) from shaft (17). 21. Remove retaining ring (31) and cap (32) from housing (33). 22. Remove retaining ring (34) with tooling (D). 23. Turn the housing over and remove turbine (35) from housing (33). 24. Remove bolts (37) and remove hub (36) from turbine (35). 25. Remove bearing (38) from housing (33).Assemble Torque Converter Updrive
Prior to fully assembling the torque converter updrive, check the clearance between the stator and turbine and the stator and impeller. Refer to Torque Converter, in R1300 L.H.D. Power Train Specifications, Form No. RENR4602 (9EL9601) for the correct clearance. 1. Use tooling (C) and a press to install the bearing (38) in housing (33). Install the bearing with groove (39) toward the inside of the housing. 2. Position hub (36) in turbine (35) and install bolts (37). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 60 7 N m (44 5 lb ft). 3. Install turbine (35) in housing (33). Align the ball in the hub with groove (39). 4. Hold the turbine in position and turn the housing over. Install retaining ring (34) with tooling (D). 5. Install cap (32) and retaining ring (31) on housing (33). 6. Lower the temperature of bearing (28) and install it in impeller
