The alert indicator for the primary steering system indicates that the primary steering has failed. Also, this alert indicator shows that the secondary steering is active.Testing the Secondary Steering System
Check the secondary steering system by using the following procedure:

Install a tee, a quick coupler, a pressure gauge, and a hose in the secondary steering system. Install the components between the ground driven supplemental pump and the check valve.
Start the engine. Operate the machine at approximately 16 km/h (10 mph).
Drive the machine in a straight line.
Observe that the pressure gauge is showing a low pressure.

Turn the steering wheel far enough in order to make a significant steering correction. Observe the pressure gauge. The pressure should increase approximately 1378 kPa (200 psi). The increase in pressure indicates that the secondary steering system is operating. A minimum increase in pressure or no increase in pressure indicates a problem. Consult your Caterpillar Dealer for adjustments or repairs to the system.
Stop the machine. Remove the pressure gauge and hose from the secondary steering system.
