Removal Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Remove hose connector (2) for the manual sump pump and the O-ring seal.
Drain engine coolant into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
Remove oil level gauge tube (3) from oil pan (1) .
Remove pipe (4) for the engine coolant .

Remove hose connector (5) for the crankcase breather from engine oil pan (1) .

Remove bolts (6) from engine oil pan (1) .
Remove engine oil pan (1) and the gasket for the engine oil pan.Installation Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Clean all surfaces thoroughly. Inspect the condition of the gasket. Replace the gasket, if necessary.

Install the gasket for the engine oil pan and engine oil pan (1) .
Install bolts (6) in order to fasten engine oil pan (1). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 22 N m (16 lb ft).

Install hose connector (5) for the crankcase breather to engine oil pan (1) .

Install a new O-ring seal and hose connector (2) for the manual sump pump to engine oil pan (1). Tighten connector (2) for the manual sump pump to a torque of 34 N m (25 lb ft).
Install tube (3) for the engine oil level gauge to engine oil pan (1) .
Install coolant pipe (4) to the engine .
Fill the engine oil pan to the correct level that is indicated on the engine oil level gauge.Note: Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities" for more information.
