Removal Procedure
Start By:
Park the machine on a flat, level surface. Lower the boom. Engage the parking brake. Chock the wheels in order to keep the machine from rolling when the drive shaft is removed.

Support drive shaft (1) near the front axle with an appropriate floor jack. The weight of the drive shaft is approximately 14 kg (31 lb).

Remove bolts (2) that secure drive shaft (1) to the flange on the front axle. Use the floor jack in order to carefully lower the front end of the drive shaft to the floor.

Reposition the floor jack near the rear axle and support the weight of drive shaft (1) before removing bolts (3) that secure the drive shaft to the flange on the rear axle.
Use the floor jack to carefully lower the rear end of the drive shaft to the floor. Remove the drive shaft and the floor jack from the machine.Installation Procedure
Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Position drive shaft (1) under the machine and use a suitable floor jack to raise the rear end of the drive shaft to the flange on the rear axle.

Install bolts (3) in order to secure the rear end of drive shaft (1) to the flange on the rear axle.

Reposition the floor jack near the front axle and use the floor jack to position the front end of drive shaft (1) to the flange on the front axle.

Install bolts (2) in order to secure the front end of drive shaft (1) to the flange on the front axle. Remove the floor jack from the machine.End By:
Lubricate the splines on the drive shaft. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Drive Shaft Spline - Lubricate".
Remove all the chocks from the wheels that were installed during the removal procedure.
