this section for the troubleshooting of problems that have generated event codes but do not have active diagnostic codes. When the event code is generated, the event is active. Any generated code becomes logged in the permanent memory of the Electronic Control Module (ECM).Event codes alert the operator that an abnormal engine operating condition such as low oil pressure or high coolant temperature has been detected. Events do not indicate problems with the electronic system. Event codes also indicate the nature of the problem. Event codes may be viewed on a personal computer that has the software for the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET).

Typical exampleIllustration 1 indicates output voltage from the coolant temperature sensor. As you look at Illustration 1, notice the output voltage of the sensor.
