Remove & Install Aftercooler
FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENT Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.Start By:a. remove fuel injection lines 1. Remove plug (5) and drain the coolant from the aftercooler into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Reinstall plug (5).2. Remove four bolts and washers (2).3. Remove eighteen bolts (3).4. Remove bracket (4).5. Remove aftercooler housing (1). 6. Remove gasket (6) from cover (1). 7. Remove four bolts and washers (7).8. Remove two elbows (8). 9. Remove two O-ring seals (9).10. Remove two adapters (10). 11. Remove eight bolts (12).12. Remove cooler element (11).13. Remove two O-ring seals (13). 14. Remove eight bolts (15), aftercooler housing (14) and the gasket. 15. Remove four O-ring seals (16). The following steps are for installation of the aftercooler. Prior to installation, check all O-ring seals for damage or wear and replace if necessary. Coat the seals with clean engine oil. For installation of the aftercooler, reverse the removal steps.End By:a. install fuel injection lines
