Personal injury may occur from failure to properly service the batteries.Batteries give off flammable fumes that can explode. Electrolyte is an acid and can cause personal injury if it contacts the skin or eyes.Prevent sparks near the batteries. Sparks could cause vapors to explode. Do not allow jumper cable ends to contact each other or the engine. Improper jumper cable connections can cause an explosion.Always wear protective glasses when working with batteries.
Inspect the condition of the cables to the batteries and inspect the condition of the batteries.Note: When you replace the batteries, always use the same type of battery.Use the following procedure in order to isolate the batteries if any repairs are necessary.
Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position. Turn all switches to the OFF position.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Remove the key.
At the battery disconnect switch, disconnect the negative battery cable that is connected to the frame. Note: Do not allow the disconnected battery cable to contact the disconnect switch.
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the terminals of the batteries.
Perform the necessary repairs. Replace the cables or the batteries, as needed.
Connect the negative battery cable to the terminals of the battery.
Connect the negative battery cable at the battery disconnect switch.
Install the key for the battery disconnect switch. Turn the key to the ON position.Recycle the Battery
Always recycle a battery. Never discard a battery.Always return used batteries to one of the following locations:
A battery supplier
An authorized battery collection facility
Recycling facility
