Illustration 1 g06058069The Battery Booster Interface (BBI) board is located behind the door of the Extended Runtime Cabinet (EXRC). The BBI provides control and status communication between the UPS and the batteries. The Battery Booster Interface (BBI) board serves the purpose of interacting with different boards in the UPS and the battery cabinets. The board provides voltage sources for ISN Red, ISN Pri, APC3, and VCI boards. In addition, temperature signals and current sensing signals are detected and processed in the BBI board. The BBI board also manages the EPO circuit and samples system discrete statuses.Battery Booster Interface (BBI) Functions
The functions of the Batter Booster Interface (BBI) are in the following list.Auxiliary Interfaces - The auxiliary interfaces are daisy-chained from 6 battery strings. The status signal is fed in PLD in the BBI board.Emergency Power Off (EPO) - The EPO signal is from the BCI board. As long as the EPO is received on the BBI, the UVR or Shunt Trip signals are sent to the battery cabinets. Harness check circuitry is also added to check the connection of the EPO input connector on the BBI board.Battery UVR and Shunt Trip (ST) - The battery UVR/ST can be triggered either by the command from EPO input in BCI or from the BBI board. The ST circuit is coupled with a bulk capacitor which is able to provide 35 Amps DC current.Battery Management System (BMS) Inputs - The BMS is monitored by the BMI. The signal is fed into the PLD in the BBI then passed to the APC3 board. The circuit is treated in a separate SELV area.Fan Interfaces - The switching of the two fans is controlled by PLD in the BBI board with two 5A fuses attached.Serial Communications - The BBI receives EPO commands from, and sends temperature and status data to the APC3 serially. These packets are CRC verified. Discrete status signals are digitally filtered on the BBI prior to serialization.Inductor Temperature Inputs - The BBI monitors the following system temperatures: Thermistor 1 (L1 line inductor temperature), Thermistor 2 (L2 line inductor temperature), Thermistor 3 ( L3 line inductor temperature), and Thermistor 4 (L4 line inductor temperature). The temperature data is processed in the A/D chip. The results are passed into the PLD in the BBI and then sent to APC3 through the serial bus.Battery Cabinet Temperature Sensing - There are six temperature sensors measuring the battery temperatures in the six cabinets individually. There is an additional temperature sensor used to measure the overall room temperature. These sensors are treated as current sources being able to output a 4 mA to 20 mA current. The temperature data is processed in the A/D chip. The results are passed into the PLD in the BBI and then sent to the APC3 through the serial bus.Battery Booster Interface (BBI) Board Removal
Note: Always practice Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) prevention when handling printed wire assemblies (PWAs).
Ensure that all pre-removal steps are performed for the Extended Runtime Cabinet (EXRC) before gaining access to internal
