Change Oil, Clean Magnetic Strainer and Breather
1. With the oil warm, remove the drain plug and allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.2. Clean and install the drain plug. 3. Remove the breather and wash in clean nonflammable solvent.4. Inspect the breather. If damaged, discard it and install a new one.5. Install a new or cleaned breather. 6. Remove the magnetic strainer cover (4 bolts) and pull out the screen and magnets.7. Wash the screen (1) and magnets (2) in clean nonflammable solvent and further clean the magnets with a cloth or stiff brush.
Be careful not to drop or otherwise jar the magnets.
8. Install the screen, magnets and cover using a new seal if necessary. Ensure that spring washer (3) is in place.9. Fill the transmission with new oil to about 125mm above the FULL mark on the dipstick.10. Start the engine, allow to run at low idle for two minutes then add more oil as required to bring the level to the FULL mark.Always ensure that the correct grade of oil is used for the prevailing ambient conditions. If the ambient temperature goes above the recommended range for the oil used the oil will become thin and will not support the high loadings present in the transmission.Axles
Change Oil
1. Position the truck on hard level ground so that one of the front axle final drive level plugs is at its lowest point.2. Remove the plug and drain the oil into a suitable container.3. Clean and install the plug.4. Move the machine very slowly until the opposite final drive level plug is at its lowest point.5. Remove the plug and drain the oil into a suitable container.6. Clean and install the plug.7. Lower the suspension to the service position. See the section "Lowering the Suspension". 8. Remove the front differential drain plug and drain the oil into a suitable container.9. Clean and install the plug.10. Block the rear wheels.11. Start the engine, ensure differential lock is disengaged and release the park brake.12. Allow the suspension to self level. 13. Move the machine slightly until one of the front final drive level plugs (1) is on the horizontal centre line of the wheel (the 9 o'clock or 3 o'clock position).14. Apply the park brake and shut down the engine.15. Remove the level plug (1) and filler plug (2) and add oil until it flows out of the level hole. Allow time for the oil to flow along the axle housing and settle at a common level.16. The axles on later machines, are not fitted with filler plug (2). The procedure for changing the oil is as detailed in steps 1 to 14 but oil must be added through the level plug (1). Speed filling by adding oil through the axle housing filler hole (3).16. Clean and install the plugs. The procedure described above is for the front axle. Use exactly the same procedure for the rear axle on two
