At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Mark all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for identification purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes in order to prevent foreign material from entering the system.
Lower the ripper to the ground. Install Tooling (A) onto the hydraulic tank.Reference: Refer to the topic "Tools for Minimizing Oil Loss During Hydraulic System Disassembly" in Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide, NENG2500.

Disconnect hoses (1) from ripper lift cylinder (2). Remove the O-ring seals from the hoses.

Attach a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to ripper lift cylinder (2) .

Remove bolts (3), plate (4), and pin (5) in order to disconnect the ripper frame from the rod end of the ripper lift cylinder.

Remove bolts (6), plate (7), and pin (8) in order to disconnect the machine from the head end of the ripper lift cylinder.Note: The ripper lift cylinder weighs approximately 115 kg (255 lb).
Remove the ripper lift cylinder.
Repeat Steps 2 through 6 for the other side.
Remove Tooling (A) from the hydraulic tank.Installation Procedure

Use a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to install ripper lift cylinder (2) .

Install pin (8), plate (7), and bolts (6) in order to connect the machine to the head end of the ripper lift cylinder. Use suitable wood blocks to support the lift cylinder. Remove the lifting strap.

Install the O-ring seals in hoses (1). Connect the hoses to ripper lift cylinder (2) .
Start the machine. Extend or retract the cylinder in order to align the rod end of the lift cylinder with the ripper frame.

Install pin (5), plate (4), and bolts (3) in order to connect the ripper frame to the rod end of the ripper lift cylinder.
Repeat Steps 1 through 5 for the other side.
Check the hydraulic system oil level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check" for the proper procedure.
