ALTERNATOR GP-CHARGING 1142707 - Caterpillar

The following procedure has been included as a guide for proper operation of the Generator Set Power Module generator set. If difficulties arise during startup, contact your Caterpillar dealer.1. Open all breakers before making any electrical connections.2. Make sure Generator Set Power Module is properly grounded. Connect load cables, as required, to buss bars. Refer to electrical prints for proper wiring.3. Turn ON jacket water heaters and check the strip heater in generator for operation. Allow adequate time for the engine and generator to warm up.4. Turn ON any other heaters required for specific ambient conditions.5. Check operation of louvers, if motorized, when engine starts.6. Check to ensure there is NO electrical load on generator before starting ( breaker open).7. Make sure the start switch (rotary) is in OFF or RESET position.8. Check air cleaners for good air flow (no clogging or air flow blockage).9. Check for fuel in fuel tank, make sure all fuel valves are in the correct position.10. Check engine oil level.11. Check engine coolant level. Make sure low water level switch is in the UP position.12. Check engine, and area around engine, for loose items.13. If radiator exhausts through rear doors, make sure rear doors are open to allow radiator air flow.14. The engine is now ready to start.15. Turn 24 volt battery supply ON (KEY switch on batteries).16. Make sure emergency stop (mushroom-shaped) buttons are turned and pulled out for the RUN position.17. Prime engine, if necessary. Engine should need priming only if fuel has been drained from the lines.18. Turn engine start switch to the START/RUN position (straight down). Engine should crank and start.19. Make sure engine comes up to the proper speed and hertz rating.20. Adjust voltage, if necessary, on the voltage control knob.21. Refer to switchgear owner's manual, or prints, for operation of electrical controls.Engine Shutdown
After removing load from engine, allow the engine to run at idle for a MINIMUM of five minutes to cool before turning the engine OFF.
