This test will help to determine whether the lift cylinders are causing a drift problem. When the oil port at the head end of the lift cylinder is blocked, the lift cylinder should not move during a drift test. If the lift cylinder moves, there is internal leakage in the lift cylinder. This test will determine whether the right cylinder or the left cylinder is causing the drift.Perform this test with an empty bucket.

Prepare the machine for testing by completing the procedure that is specified in the Service Manual module Testing and Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting" for the machine that is being serviced.
Start the engine. Warm the hydraulic oil to normal operating temperature of approximately 49 to 65°C (120 to 150°F).
Move the lift cylinder in and out for five repetitions in order to make sure that there is warm oil in the lift cylinder.
Raise the bucket off the ground approximately 1 m (3.3 ft). Place a support block under the bucket. Lower the bucket onto the support block.
Stop the engine.
