Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

(1) Switch for the fuel priming pump (tractor)

(2) Switch for the fuel priming pump (scraper)Switch (1) is located on the right side of the tractor. The fuel priming pump is on the right side of the engine compartment underneath the hood.Switch (2) is located on the right side of the scraper. The fuel priming pump is on the right side of the engine compartment underneath the hood.The pump is used when the following operations occur:
Changing the fuel filters
Changing the fuel lines
Purging air from the fuel systemNote: The engine start switch for the tractor must be in the OFF position in order to prime the fuel system. Do not attempt to start the engine until the fuel system is purged of air.
Push the switch upward in order to pump fuel.Note: The pump will fill the filters.Note: If the pump will not pump fuel, the pump may be faulty or an air leak may occur on the suction side of the fuel system.
Continue to prime the fuel system until the flow of fuel is free of air bubbles.
If you have only changed the fuel filters, go to Step 6. If you have air in the fuel system for some other reason, continue with Step 4.
Prime the fuel injector nozzle by first opening the fuel inlet line. The fuel injector nozzle must be held in order to open the fuel line. The line may need to be wiggled slightly in order to allow the fuel to flow from the line.
Continue to prime the fuel system until the flow of fuel from the line is free of air bubbles. Close the line. Follow this procedure for all of the injectors.
Start the engine. If the engine will not start, further priming is necessary. If the engine starts but the engine continues to misfire, further priming is necessary. If the engine starts but the engine continues to emit smoke, further priming is necessary.
If the engine starts but the engine runs rough, continue to run the engine at low idle until the engine runs smoothly.
