Retrofit Guard Group Installation Procedure
This installation may be done without removal of the right hand side roller frame. However, guard removal and installation is much easier to perform if the roller frame is first removed.1. Remove existing right hand rear guard assembly and existing right hand front guard assembly. Keep right hand rear guard assembly if it will be reworked and reused.2. Remove the two bolts that are shown in Illustration 2. Bolt (B) will be replaced and bolt (A) will be reused.

Hardbar(A) Bolt (reuse this bolt)(B) Bolt (replace with 8T-0674 Bolt) 3. For Challenger 35 (8DN1-595), Challenger 45 (1DR1-1316), and Challenger 55 (7DM1-514) Agricultural Tractors, the 165-2069 Bracket As may need to be reworked as shown in Illustration 3 in order to allow clearance with the track tensioner pressure sensor wire. If 165-2069 Bracket As already has the cutout (E), then go to Step 4.In addition, the U-shaped track tensioner harness guard may need to be modified in order to provide correct clearance with the 165-2069 Bracket and 172-8584 Guard-Lower (right hand). Then reinstall reworked tension harness guard. Leave the guard loose for the time being.

Modification to 165-2069 Bracket As.(C) 113 mm (4.45 inch)(D) 5 mm (.20 inch)(E) 25.4 mm (1 inch) diameter4. Install 165-2069 Bracket As (7) by using existing Bolt (A) and new 8T-0674 Bolt (B). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 800 100 N m (590 75 lb ft).

Location of additional holes in right hand frame rail.(F) 79.5 mm (3.13 inch)(G) 462.9 mm (18.22 inch)(H) 317.9 mm (12.52 inch)(J) 7 mm (.28 inch) dia (M8 x 1.25 THD)5. Locate and drill two holes as shown in Illustration 4. Note that these holes are first drilled, then tapped into the frame rail. Another method to locate the holes could be to wait until Step 7, then bolt up the guard in the other locations, then use it as a template in order to locate these holes.6. For Challenger 35 (8DN1-595), Challenger 45 (1DR1-1316), and Challenger 55 (7DM1-514) Agricultural Tractors, the 172-8584 Guard-Lower (right hand) may need to be modified as shown in Illustration 5 in order to provide clearance with the track tensioner harness guard. If 172-8584 Guard-Lower already has this cutout, then skip to Step 7.If clearance is not sufficient, modify either the 172-8584 Guard, or the existing tensioner harness guard.

Modification needed to 172-8584 Guard(K) 40 mm (1.57 inch)(L) 55 mm (2.17 inch)(M) 175 mm (6.89 inch)7. Install 172-8584 Guard-Lower (right hand) by using two 8T-4908 Bolts (11) and two 8C-0572 Washers (10) at the frame rail. Install three 8T-4189 Bolts (10) and two 8C-0572 Washers (2) into 165-2069 Bracket As.
Illustration 6.8. Install 154-9989 Spring Clip (3) onto 157-2739 Guard As-Front. Install the clip at location (F) shown in Illustration 6.9. Install 157-6127 Cover As-Front (right hand) to 157-2739 Guard As-Front by using two 8T-4189 Bolts (10) and two 8C-0572 Washers (2). Then install 1L-6366 Plug (1) into 157-2739 Guard As.10. Install 101-2854 Seal along top
