Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
There is one suction screen on the transmission tank. Clean the suction screen whenever there is a failure of the transmission.

Location of the transmission tank
Remove the filler cap in order to prevent a vacuum in the transmission tank. Install the filler cap after the transmission tank is drained. This will prevent dirt from entering the system.
Remove the drain valve plug from the transmission tank. Install a 100 mm (4 inch) long NPT pipe nipple in order to open the internal drain valve. The outer diameter of the NPT pipe nipple should be 25 mm (1 inch). Drain the oil into a suitable container. Note: Hand tighten the NPT pipe nipple. Do not use tools.
Clean the drain plug. Remove the pipe nipple and install the drain plug.
Remove the bolts from the cover on the front of the transmission tank. Remove the cover.
Clean the debris from the bottom of the tank.

(1) Suction screen
Disconnect the suction line.
Remove suction screen (1) from the transmission tank.
Wash suction screen (1) in clean, nonflammable solvent.
Install clean suction screen (1), the hose, the clean flange and the clean retaining bolts.
Clean the cover for the front of the transmission tank in clean, nonflammable solvent. Inspect the cover gasket. If the gasket is damaged, replace the gasket.
Install the cover to the front of the transmission tank.
Fill the transmission tank. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities". Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".

(2) Engine shutdown switch
Use engine shutdown switch (2) to prevent the engine from starting. Crank the engine for approximately 15 seconds. The oil level will decrease as oil fills the system.
Add oil to the tank in order to raise the oil level to the safe starting range.

Repeat Step 13 and Step 14 until the oil stabilizes in the "FULL COLD" mark in sight gauge (3).
Lower the guard on engine shutdown switch (2). Start the engine and operate the engine at low idle. Check for leaks and make necessary repairs.
Clean the filler cap and install the filler cap.
Failure to properly fill the transmission tank after an oil change may cause damage to the transmission clutches. Follow the procedure that is described above.The transmission direction and speed control MUST be left in NEUTRAL until the system is full.
