Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is available, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
The trunnion bolts that are used secure the rocker caps to the rockers may become loose on certain Center Lock Couplers. The TB, HB, and HB2 Linkages for Center Lock Couplers that contain 304-3771 Rocker As and 304-3772 Rocker As (345 through 349 Excavators), the 7Y-5221 Bolts may loosen to an incorrect torque specification. The TB, HB and HB2 Linkages for Center Lock Couplers that contain 309-9224 Rocker As and 309-9225 Rocker As (385 through 390 Excavators), the 7Y-5221 Bolts may loosen to an incorrect torque specification. The loosening of the bolts happens within 300 service hours after having been correctly torqued. Refer to Table 1 in order to verify the Center Lock Couplers that need to have the torque for the retaining bolts checked.

292-4157    Solution
Check trunnion bolts (3) for proper torque using the following procedure until a permanent corrective action (PCA) can be identified.

Fully retract cylinder (1) by placing the coupler switch in the UNLOCK position and fully extending the bucket cylinder, curling the coupler under. Hold over the relief for 5 seconds. With the coupler switch still in the UNLOCK position, uncurl the coupler and place in a secure position on the ground. Refer to Illustration 2. Without activating the boom, stick, or bucket implement controls, move the coupler switch to the LOCKED position, wait 5 seconds, then turn off the machine.

In order to ensure that no cylinder load is being placed on trunnion bolts (3), open counterbalance valve bleeder (2). Leave the bleeder open at this time.
Check trunnion bolts (3) for proper torque of 320 N m (236 lb ft). If movement occurs, continue to Step 4 to inspect and reassemble. If trunnion bolts (3) do not move when checked, proceed to Step 7.
Remove trunnion bolts (3) and check for damage to the threads and replace if damage is found. Ensure sufficient threaded hole depth so that the trunnion bolts do not bottom out in the holes. Bottoming out would result in rocker caps (4) being loose after the trunnion bolts have been torqued.Note: The rocker caps are designed and oriented specifically for each rocker. Mark each rocker cap prior to removal in order to ensure that the rocker caps are reinstalled on the original rocker and in the original orientation. Due to the machining process of the rockers, the rocker caps are matched to the lower rocker as a set. Caps should NOT be swapped between the rockers and the rocker caps should never be turned around on the same
