Before assembly of components, make sure bearing cups and cones are seated in the housing by using 0.038 mm (.0015 in) shim stock or a standard feeler gauge.1. Assemble gear (1), bearing cage (3) and bearings. Tighten all bearing cage bolts (4) evenly.2. Position housing in a vertical position. Rotate gear back and forth several times to seat bearings.3. Measure gap (2) between housing and bearing cage.4. Add shims required to obtain 0.10 0.05 mm (.004 .002 in) end play.5. Measure end play at gear (1).6. If end play is less than 0.05 mm (.002 in) add shims. If end play is greater than 0.15 mm (.006 in), remove shims.7. Put 7M7260 Gasket Material on seal bore surface (5) in retainer. Let dry before installing seal.
