Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
On certain Wheel Tractor Scrapers that are having the 392-7939 Power Train Software Gp , and 459-0201 Power Train Software Gp installed on the Tractor Transmission Chassis ECM, the following transmission solenoid valve diagnostic codes may not be displayed under certain specific conditions when a fault condition occurs. The diagnostic codes that may not display are:
MID 027, CID 1401 - FMIs 03, 05, 06 - Transmission Solenoid 1
MID 027, CID 1402 - FMIs 03, 05, 06 - Transmission Solenoid 2
MID 027, CID 1403 - FMIs 03, 05, 06 - Transmission Solenoid 3
MID 027, CID 1404 - FMIs 03, 05, 06 - Transmission Solenoid 4
MID 027, CID 1405 - FMIs 03, 05, 06 - Transmission Solenoid 5
MID 027, CID 1406 - FMIs 03, 05, 06 - Transmission Solenoid 6
MID 027, CID 1407 - FMIs 03, 05, 06 - Transmission Solenoid 7The conditions that can cause one or more of the listed diagnostic codes to not be displayed are:
If a fault condition causes activation of one or more of the listed diagnostic codes when the key start switch is OFF, the fault will not be displayed when the key start switch is turned ON or the engine is started. There will be no visual indication that the fault condition is present or the diagnostic code is active. A key cycle will not cause the diagnostic code to display.
If a fault condition causes activation of one or more of the listed diagnostic codes when the key start switch is ON or the machine is operating, the active diagnostic code will be displayed. If the fault condition is no longer present while the key start switch is still ON or the engine is running, the diagnostic code will clear as expected.
If a fault condition causes activation of one or more of the listed diagnostic codes when the key start switch is ON or the machine is operating and the fault condition is corrected with the key start switch in the OFF position, the diagnostic code will continue to be displayed when the key start switch is turned ON and will appear to remain active despite the fault condition being resolved. A key cycle will not cause the diagnostic code to clear.Solution
If one of the listed transmission solenoid faults is activated by the ECM when the machine is in operation or when the key start switch is ON, the repair can be investigated with the key switch OFF as is normally done. Once the cause is determined, repair the problem with the key switch OFF. However to clear the diagnostic code, the ECM must see the same condition change states with the key switch ON. Turn the key start switch ON and simulate the fault condition at a convenient location in the involved solenoid circuit. For example:
After repair, if the active code was for an FMI 03, voltage
