This information does not replace the Parts Book, which provides correct part numbers for specific engine arrangements and serial numbers.
Three different camshaft and valve mechanism groups are available for use on 3208 Engines. See the chart.
All 3208 Direct Injected Naturally Aspirated (DINA) Engine arrangements use the 9N728 Camshaft Group and the 9N487 Valve Mechanism Group. The 9N728 shaft Group uses a "standard" lift cast iron camshaft. The 9N487 Valve Mechanism Group uses slipper followers and "standard" push rods. These engine arrangements use a single valve spring with each valve.
Some 3208 Direct Injection Turbocharged (DIT) Engine arrangements, up to and including 168 kW (225 hp), use the 9N6609 Camshaft Group and the 9N6617 Valve Mechanism Group. The 9N6609 Camshaft Group uses a "high lift" cast iron camshaft. The 9N6617 Valve Mechanism Group uses slipper followers and heavy duty push rods. These engine arrangements use a double valve spring set with each valve.
Other 3208 DIT Engine arrangements, rated above 168 kW (225 hp) use the 9N3596 Camshaft Group and the 9N3603 Valve Mechanism Group. The 9N3596 Camshaft Group uses a "high lift" steel camshaft. The camshaft lobes have a more rounded profile than the "high lift" cast iron camshaft. The 9N3603 Valve Mechanism Group uses roller followers and heavy duty push rods. These engine arrangements use a double valve spring set with each valve.
