209-6416 209-6417 Communication Electronic Control Module (Product Link)The Product Link is a satellite communication device that transmits information regarding the machine back to Caterpillar. The unit contains a Global Positioning System (GPS) as well as a satellite communications transceiver. The Product Link module is initially setup by using a laptop computer with the Electronic Technician. The version of Electronic Technician must be at least 3.1. The data module requires shock mounting in certain applications. The installation section contains more information regarding the shock mounting.The Product Link 151 has the following features: Location, SMU hours, Product Watch and four digital inputs.The Product Link 201 has the features of the Product Link 151 and the unit also monitors the CAT data link for diagnostic codes and events. It is possible to convert a Product Link 151 to a Product Link 201. Inputs
The Product Link can be set up to receive information from components about machine operations by using a switch to ground-type inputs. Switches provide ON or OFF (closed or open) signals to the switch inputs of the Product Link. The inputs to the Product Link are listed in the table for the 24-pin connector. The Product Link uses the CAT data link in order to communicate with other electronic control modules. The data link is bidirectional. The data link allows the Product Link to receive information. The data link allows the Product Link to send information. The data link allows the sharing of information with other electronic control modules.A module identifier (MID) is assigned to each ECM. The MID for the Product Link is the number 122.
