27. Fasten a hoist to gear (18), and remove it from the transfer gear case. The weight of the gear is 29 kg (64 lb). 28. Remove two bearing cones (19) from gear (18).29. Use tooling (C) to remove the two bearing cups from the transfer gear case for gears (16) and (18). 30. Turn the transfer gear case over. Remove the small O-ring seal from the transfer gear case.31. Remove eight bolts (20) and the washers. Use two of the bolts (20) as forcing screws to loosen bearing cage (21) from the transfer case. Install the two bolts in the bearing cage, and tighten them evenly until the bearing cage is loose. Remove the bearing cage.32. Remove the O-ring seal from bearing cage (21). 33. Remove lip-type seal (22) from bearing cage (21). 34. Remove bearing race (23) from bearing cage (21) with tooling (E). 35. Remove plate assembly (24), the O-ring seal, and screen and tube assembly from the screen housing.Assemble Transfer Gears
1. Check the condition of all O-ring seals used in the transfer gears. If any of the seals are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. 2. Be sure the magnets on the tube assembly and the screen are thoroughly clean and free of dirt and debris prior to installation.3. Install tube assembly (1) and screen (2) in the screen housing. 4. Install O-ring seal (3) and plate assembly (4) on the screen housing. 5. Turn the transfer gear case over. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (5), and install it in the bearing cage. Be sure the bearing cup is properly seated in the bearing cage. 6. Install O-ring seal (6) on the bearing cage. 7. Put 7M7260 Liquid Gasket in the seal bore of the bearing cage. Be sure the liquid gasket is dry before the lip-type seal is installed. Do not put the liquid gasket on the seal case.8. Install the lip-type seal in the bearing cage with tooling (A). Install the lip-type seal until it makes contact with the counterbore in the bearing cage and with the lip of the seal facing toward the inside of the bearing cage as shown. 9. Put 1P808 General Purpose Grease on the lip of the seal and the O-ring seal on the bearing cage.10. Install bearing cage (7) in the transfer gear case. Install the bolts and washers that hold it. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 55 10 N m (40 7 lb ft). 11. Install small O-ring seal (8) in the transfer gear case. 12. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (9) and (10), and install them in the transfer gear case as shown. 13. Heat two bearing cones (11) to a maximum temperature
